WHAT IS TEFLON?

Teflon is a product invested in 1938 by Dr. R.Plunkette, Director of DuPont Plastics Department, which revolutionized countless applications in today’s developing industry and offered solutions for many problems. The name Teflon is a registered trademark of the firm DuPont and its use is subject to permission by DuPont.

BASIC CHARACTERISTICS OF TEFLON

1-Nonstick: It is very rare that some materials stick on a surface coated with Teflon. But they can be removed from the surface very easily.
2-Low Coefficient of Friction: The coefficient of friction is usually between 0.05 and 0.20 depending on the loading, friction speed and type of Teflon used. It provides dry lubrication.
3-Wetproof: Teflon coated surfaces are resistant to moisture and water, which ensures that such surfaces remain always clean or are easily cleaned.
4-Heat Resistant: PTFE coatings do not disintegrate below 205 C. A slight change was observed between 250 C and 290 C that does not cause any problem in structure of substance. Intermittent use is recommended between 290 C and 315 C, with sufficient ventilation.
5-Insulation: It provides insulation on surfaces exposed to electricity and also can be used as an anti-static coating.
6-Resistant to Negative Temperature: Many types of Teflon are resistant even to the lowest temperatures. It can be used up to 270 C without any problems.
7-Chemical Resistance and Corrosion: Teflon usually does not undergo any change in contact with the chemicals. It is resistant to acids. Only the alkaline metals and high reactivity fluorine substances can harm Teflon.

WHICH SURFACES ARE BEST FOR TEFLON COATING?

A-) Metals
- Iron and iron alloyed surfaces
- Stainless steel
- Aluminum
- And similar cast surfaces

B-) Non-metal surfaces
- Glass
- Ceramic
- Plastic

COATING THICKNESS
The coating thickness ranges from 10 micron up to 1000 microns depending on the working environment and conditions of the material coated with Teflon.
